Research interests:
I am fascinated by the spectacular diversity of vertebrates and investigate the evolutionary mechanisms that have produced it. My research primarily involves bioinformatic analyses of genomic datasets, often at the intersection of population genetics and phylogenetics. Among the findings enabled by my studies are insights into
- the evolution of supergenes in Atlantic cod,
- the drivers of the massive adaptive radiations of cichlid fishes,
- the evolution of color vision in deep-sea fishes,
- the origin of the Italian sparrow hybrid species, and
- the maintainance of species boundaries in hybridizing eels.
In an ongoing project, I am investigating the explosive diversification of icefishes in Antarctic waters, a rare marine example of the process of adaptive radiation.
